Classification of Shuttle Base
According to the material used, shuttle bases are classified as rigid plastic, foamed plastic and cork bases. The first two kinds are used for shuttles for low-end entertainment use, which are of low performance and low cost. For medium to high-end shuttles, natural cork bases are used. Cork bases are divided into three categories: complete-cork base, compound-cord base and regenerative-cord base. Their structure diagrams are as follows:

We can see that the best base is complete-cork base, which has an excellent performance in terms of impact resistance and durability. Compound-cord base is characterized by low cost and high breaking tenacity. However, if the hitting force is very large, regenerative-cork part of the base is easy to be broken. The cost of regenerative-cord base is also low but its flight characteristics and impact resistance are better than that of non-cork bases. Though it has a bad durability, it can meet need of some special customers. For example, it is provided to badminton beginners or used for matches held in low-cost and medium-performance courts. Since a beginner has a low hitting force but is easy to hit the feather, it is not easy for him/her to hit a regenerative-cord base to break. Regenerative-cord base can completely meet need of beginners for their practices and the cost is much lower. Of course, the strength of regenerative-cord base varies because of different manufacturing techniques adopted by different manufacturers. In recent years, shuttle base manufacturers have developed a kind of base made of the good quality fibre and natural cork. It is good as the nature cork, the structure diagrams are as follows:
